Title: Sensor-assisted beam tracking to support beam-based V2X communications
Abstract: The employment of millimetre-Wave frequencies to support Vehicle-to-Everything communications relies on the use of collimated beams to compensate for the high path loss. Designing efficient beam tracking strategies is a challenging task for the vehicular scenario, due to the high mobility of the users. This seminar outlines the research on a sensor-assisted beam tracking approach, where the vehicles’ on-board measurements are exploited to compute the pointing directions. The vehicles estimate the ego-positions from the sensors’ data and share these estimates and relative variance with the network. This sharing leads to mutual awareness between the vehicles, which are able to compute beam pointing directions and adapt the beam widths according to the accuracy of the estimation. The research involved i) a study on the effect of road-induced vibrations and antenna position on the beam pointing, ii) the design of signalling strategies to support data dissemination iii) and the employment of imaging sensors in the estimation.
